Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács has been the Secretary General of the Hungarian Banking Association since 1 June 2011, the primary head of the organisation. Previously, he was Deputy CEO of KDB Bank, and between 2002 and 2006 he was Managing Director of Development and then Business Director of GIRO Elszámolásforgalmi Zrt. Prior to that, he was Managing Director of Corporate Marketing at Budapest Bank, Director of Product Development at HypoVereinsbank and Head of Department at CIB Bank.

He is the Head of the Department of International Finance at the University of Miskolc, Vice President-elect of the Asian Financial Cooperation Association, EXCO member of the European Banking Federation, Editorial Board Member/Chairman of 5 domestic and 3 foreign academic journals, Board Member and Supervisory Board Member of several financial organisations.

In 2012, he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit of Hungary for his wide-ranging public, teaching and publishing activities.

He graduated in mathematics and physics from the Kossuth Lajos University of Sciences, obtained an MBA from the University of Economics, followed by a Ph.D. in finance from the University of Miskolc, where he habilitated.
